The wait is over, Chapter 5 is now live, continuing the adventures of Dr. Rind and his brain-in-a-jar companion....

For a man of science and having been scorned by his peers, transported into the future, bodily altered by monsters unknown and talking to a brain-in-a-box (he created) why is Dr. Rind so skeptical?

Uhh, "skeptical" about what, specifically?

The events just prior to his re-entry into the atmosphere (which I won't give away) are of a type and on a scale way beyond his life experience; and based on his scientific training (which is ALL ABOUT skepticism) what happened to him couldn't have happened.

Did you like the chapter?

I would have expected Dr. Rind to have more acceptance of the new experiences on board with his invention and having it on his side helping him. As you point out I don't have all the info!

Did you like the chapter?

I liked the cold finger walking sensations through Rind's body!

Nothing in Dr. Rind's experience has prepared him for them cold walking fingers. His Unifying Theory of Geologic and Social Forces (UTGSF) may be a bizarre extrapolation from accepted science, but it isn't metaphysics, which is what he experiences in orbit.

In the final draft rewrite, I'll make double-sure that distinction is clear. Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks, BKSFLDR8RMAN.  Working on chapter 6 between dayjob assignments.

Negative, BKSFLDR8RMAN. Thought I had a window to finish it, but dayjob reared its ugly head. Also, Ron has been out of town all week. Chapter 6 will go up sometime next week.

Thanks for staying tuned despite the to-date erratic progress.

Well, I was gonna ask if we might see a Chapter 6 entry this Friday or this weekend or the next Friday or weekend. Then realized next Friday would be Fri. 13th. LOL

The short, ugly story: last month my desktop was running a bit slow, so after talking to a local computer store I took it in for a “diagnostic.” Because I hadn’t backed up my main folders (dumb, I know), I had the store manager write down on the work order that it all needed to be backed up before the diagnostic was started. I could have done it myself but the manager assured me up and down that it was no problem, the techs did that sort of thing all the time. Of course the techs didn’t back anything up and they fried my hard drive. I lost virtually everything, five years of work and work product, including e-mail addresses and all the SR material (research, draft chapters, everything). The store owner and manager said they were “sorry” and gave me my money back. Sweet? Oddly enough, after admitting guilt the owner refused to give me her name.

For the last month I’ve been trying to restore my day job files so I can continue to make a living. I still don’t have in-home internet or access to my OfficialAlanPhilipson e-mail account. I have to walk to a WIFI café to hook up. This has put a major hitch in my get-along.

Alan, good to hear from you.

Yea, "sorry" would be a not so desireable response after frying a HD.  I was getting ready to email you at the "OfficialAlanPhilipson e-mail account" and post over at the Jamesaxler.com site, but now I know I need not do so.

"This has put a major hitch in my get-along."

I think it has put a major hitch in all of our "get-along" for following the SR-IV Saga, at least for a while, anyway.

Hope you can get some stuff squared away

Holy hard drive resurrection, AP! And you thought scraping mold and mildew from DDs manuscript was going to be a challenge.

I offer my condolences :-(
